DEVELOPER
When Val Santucci of VS Construction came to the United States in 1958, who would have imagined that he would someday become one of the premier builders in Westchester and Putnam Counties. Trained in Italy as a carpenter and fine furniture maker, he easily found employment at a local construction firm and spent several years perfecting his skills. In 1962, he made the decision to build his first speculative house and has never looked back. “Over the years, there have been a lot of highs and lows as the real estate market fluctuated or a land approval got stalled, but I always knew this is what I wanted to do”.
As opportunities presented themselves, he discovered he possessed the vision and expertise for developing some of the area’s most popular single-family communities. But perhaps more importantly was his willingness to take a gamble and realize his personal dream. His first large-scale undertaking began in the 1970’s and since then has literally built hundreds of homes.
Each project presents its own set of unique challenges, however Mr. Santucci attributes the success of his communities to his hands-on approach. Although his company has grown to 130 employees, Mr. Santucci, along with his 2 sons, Armando and Pellegrino, is personally involved in all aspects of development and construction. “Its not unusual to see me maneuvering a bulldozer at the job site,” he adds. In addition to actively overseeing the projects himself, VS Construction’s team of carpenters, many of whom have been with the company since the beginning, are true craftsman. “My team offers a level of expertise that is rarely see in major new home developments”, states Mr. Santucci. “With the new strides in building techniques and improvements in materials, the home building business has changed greatly over the years but my commitment to producing a quality home has never changed."
